National University's academic programs include associate's degrees, bachelor's degrees, master's degrees, teaching credentials, and certificate programs.
National University is organized into four professional schools and two colleges: the College of Letters and Sciences; the Sanford College of Education; the School of Business and Management; the School of Engineering and Computing; the School of Health and Human Services; and the School of Professional Studies. The university offers over 130 undergraduate and graduate degrees, as well as 23 teacher credential/certificate programs.[6] Participating in online education since 1996, National University offers more than 100 graduate and undergraduate degree programs and over 1,500 courses online.

College of Letters and Sciences
National University’s College of Letters and Sciences provides the undergraduate general education courses to the students enrolled in all of the schools of National and the college itself offers liberal arts programs from bachelor's degrees in biological science, history, and psychology to master's degrees in creative writing, English, film studies, gerontology, and strategic communications.
The College of Letters and Sciences has four departments and offers an Associate of Arts degree and various bachelor's degree majors and master's degree fields of study, as well as bachelor's degree minors:
School of Business and Management
The School of Business and Management offers business degree programs on campuses and via online in an interactive learning environment. The school is composed of three departments and offers various bachelor's and master's degrees. Examples of programs offered by the school include Bachelors in Business Administration, Masters of Business Administration (MBA),
Masters of Accountancy, and Masters of Science in Organizational Leadership.[8]
Sanford College of Education
National University's Sanford College of Education offers bachelor's degrees, master’s degrees, certificates, and education credentials in areas including teaching, school counseling, school psychology, special education, early childhood education, and school administration. National holds teaching contracts with 643 California school districts[9] and approximately 70% of the 26,000 teachers in San Diego County earned their credentials at National University.[10] Programs are offered on campus and online.[citation needed]
At the Henderson, Nevada campus, the Sanford College of Education offers Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degree teacher licensure programs in elementary education, secondary math, and secondary English.[citation needed]
In 2015, National University renamed the School of Education to the Sanford College of Education in honor of philanthropist T. Denny Sanford.

School of Engineering and Computing
The School of Engineering and Computing offers degree programs in engineering, technology, computer science, and related fields. Students can focus on management information systems, construction engineering, electrical engineering, and information technology management.
School of Health and Human Services
Healthcare undergraduate and graduate degree academic programs offered to students include clinical health sciences careers, healthcare administration programs, nursing degrees, public health, allied health, clinical laboratory science, radiation therapy, clinical regulatory affairs, and more.
School of Professional Studies
The School of Professional Studies offers several graduate and undergraduate academic degree programs such as digital media, law, criminal justice, and continuing education programs.

Prevalence of online education The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) conducted a distance education study based on the 2001-2002 academic year at United States 2-year and 4-year degree-granting institutions that were eligible for U.S. federal student aid. The study reported that 56 percent of institutions surveyed offered distance education courses. The study also found that public institutions were more likely to offer distance education than private institutions were.[19] The Sloan Consortium, based on data collected from over 2,200 U.S. colleges and universities, reports that nearly 3.2 million students took at least one online course during 2005 (a significant increase over the 2.3 million reported in 2004). According to the same report, about two-thirds of the largest institutions have fully online programs.[11] In 2010, more than 6 million students were taking at least one course online.[20] As of 2013, the number of students enrolled in online courses had risen to over 6.7 million.[21] According to Steve Lohr's article in the New York Times, a major study was done in 2009 that was funded by the Education Department. The collected research was from a 12-year period and concluded that online learning on average beat face-to-face teaching by a small but statistical margin.[12] Financial aid Until 2006, United States students enrolled in online degree programs were not eligible for federal student aid unless at least half of their programs were campus-based (a law established in 1992 and known as the 50-percent rule).[22] In February 2006, that law was repealed, making federal student aid in the form of federal loans, grants, and work-study available in the U.S. for students enrolled in an eligible online degree program at an accredited Title IV-eligible institution.
